History

Rede Record is the oldest radio and television network in Brazil. She belonged to the group Silvio Santos and in 1989 sold for 45 million U.S. dollars in Edir Macedo Bezerra, the owner, founder and bishop of the Igreja Universal do Reino de Pentecostal Deus. Macedo founded his sect in 1977 in a former funeral home in Rio de Janeiro. Today, he commands an empire of radio stations, more than 1,000 churches and millions of followers. TV Record is currently the fifth largest TV Network in Brazil.

Program

Formerly Record TV was a relatively minor station that tried to copy television formats, which had proved to be successful at other stations. Meanwhile, however, Pentecostal shipments form the main program. In the remaining airtime, especially in the evening, telenovelas and shopping items are shown. On weekends and late at night TV Record is increasingly focusing on feature films.

The program of TV Record is fed into Europe in several cable networks and broadcast via satellite to various countries in Africa. The brazil -heavy television primarily mediated the culture and lifestyle of Brazil and exerts considerable cultural influence among others in Africa. This gets increasingly apparent protest. Successful shows like " O Melhor do Brasil ", " Domingo espectular ", " Tudo é possivel " and the " Jornal da Record" are the trademark of the channel.

The program makers try, especially in the emerging Portuguese-speaking African countries, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and Guinea- Bissau to entertain through an uncritical, based primarily on Brazilian telenovelas and Pentecostal Igreja Universal do Reino shipments of de Deus program. While telenovelas many young Africans, such as in Angola and in Mozambique with TV Miramar, are very popular, which is increasingly observed " Brazilianization " of these states is a reality that evokes criticism.
