Reef shark
As reef sharks four species of the family of requiem sharks ( Carcharhinidae ) are referred to, but do not form a systematic group ( taxon ):
- Blacktip reef shark ( Carcharhinus melanopterus )
- Grey Reef Shark ( Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos )
- Caribbean Reef Shark ( Carcharhinus perezi )
- Whitetip reef shark ( Triaenodon obesus )
In summary they are if their analog habitat: they live in tropical waters, and in or near coral reefs.
Reef sharks are generally not dangerous to humans and rather shy, but some species develop a territorial behavior and attack people when they are provoked to feel threatened in their territory or cornered. The International Shark Attack File assigns each of the four species to some " unprovoked " attacks on people who are not all were fatal.
