Regal Records (1949)

Regal Records was an American blues and rhythm & blues label based in Linden (New Jersey).

Regal Records was founded in 1949 by David and Jules Brown and Fred Mendelsohn. The first recording session in September 1949 appeared under # 3231 - Mistreated Blues by Blazer Boy Locks. In 1950 the label distribution of Royal Roost Records, a small New York jazz label on; it also took over the master tapes of the Detroit label sensation. In 1951, the Regal Country sublabel RFD Records, but this was already set in the same year. In November 1951, the owner of Regal announced the end of the label, whose contract artist Paul Gayten, Annie Laurie, Sammy Cotten, Larry Darnell and Titus Turner switched to Okeh Records. The master tapes of Regal were then acquired by King Records, the Syd Nathan had. The Braun brothers finally returned to DeLuxe Records, which they had co-founded and was now owned by Syd Nathan.

Further on under contract with Regal artists were Roosevelt Sykes, Chubby Newsome, Blind Willie McTell, Milt Larkin, Sunnyland Slim and Savannah Churchill.
