Regenstein Mill

The rain stone mill was a water-powered grinding and oil mill under the castle Regenstein north of the town of Blankenburg (Harz ) in the district of Harz (Saxony -Anhalt).

History and Description

The mill was built in the first half of the 12th century to supply the castle and the upstream Vorwerk Nienrode. The impact of water for the mill wheels was forwarded by a nearly two -kilometer-long millrace from Goldbach below the monks mill pond, which was exposed in the years 1988 to 1991 approximately 500 m in length.

The rain stone mill was suspended until the end of the Middle Ages into operation and thereafter increasing decay. In the Seven Years' War in 1758 which directly located on the border between Brunswick and Prussia remains of the mill system of the Prussian side were eliminated for strategic reasons. Around 1990 was the reconstruction of the two mill wheels. In 2013, a new reconstruction of the mill-race, the lower the water wheel and the provided display boards was carried out by an investigator from the Koba measure at the VHS formation GmbH in Blankenburg.

Hiking

The former mill is included as # 82 in the system of stamp locations of the Harz hiking pin. A few meters from the reconstructed mill wheels is a refuge.
