Matilda of Tuscany

On the road from Reggiolo after Gonzaga is located near the border between the Province of Reggio Emilia and the province of Mantua, the district Bondanazzo di Reggiolo. Here died on July 24, 1115 - at a time when the town was still called Bondeno di Roncore - Matilda of Tuscany, Lady of Canossa. Two kilometers to the northeast, there is another place, " Bondeno ", but belonging to Gonzaga and the province of Mantua.

The building in which Mathilde died this is an old ( privately used and therefore not publicly accessible ) farmhouse, where one sees that it was a stately home formerly an artistically embodied ceiling in the main entrance area and frescoes with religious motifs, presumably from the 15th century, point to a significant past.
