Reginald Innes Pocock

Reginald Innes Pocock ( born March 4, 1863 in Clifton (Bristol ); † August 9, 1947 in London) was a British zoologist and Arachnologe.

Life and work

Pocock studied zoology among professors Conwy Lloyd Morgan (1852-1936) and William Johnson Sollas (1849-1936) at the University College of Bristol. In 1885 he became an assistant at the Natural History Museum in London. He was responsible for the collection of tarantulas ( Theraphosidae ) and centipedes ( Myriapoda ). From 1904 until his retirement in 1923, he was head of the London Zoo. Then Pocock worked as a volunteer scientists in the Division of Mammals in the British Museum.

On 1 July 1889 he married Constance Osborne. Together they had five children; the first four, one daughter and three sons, but died in infancy. About the fourth son, Constantine Innes Pocock, little is known.

On 4 May 1911, Pocock Member ( "Fellow" ) of the Royal Society.
