Régine Pernoud

Régine Pernoud ( born June 17, 1909 in Château- Chinon ( Ville), the department of Nièvre; † 22 April 1998, Paris) was a French medievalist and archivist and Paläographin.

Life

Régine Pernoud grew up in modest circumstances. She completed her studies funded as a private teacher and as an archive employees. She graduated from the École Nationale des Chartes and the École du Louvre in Paris before she received her first job in her profession as a curator at the Museum of Reims (1949 ) after more than fourteen years. After that, she worked at the Musée de l' histoire de France (1949) and in Archives nationales (France) in Paris. At the instigation of the former Secretary of State for Cultural Affairs, Andre Malraux, she founded in 1974, the Research Centre Jeanne d'Arc in Orléans.

She busied herself in over twenty works with the Middle Ages, where they dealt in particular with the position of women in the Middle Ages and the life and work of Joan of Arc.
