Region growing is an image segmentation method.

In this method, homogeneous image regions elements to be merged. First, the initial image in cells (1 × 1, 2 × 2 or 4 × 4 pixels) is divided. Starting with an initial cell selection as the initial region of this is then compared to neighboring cells, for example the average values ​​of each color channel of the region and the neighbor cell can be considered.
