The fragmentary lower jaw bone of Regnosaurus.

  • Northamptoni R. Mantell, 1848

Regnosaurus is a little-known bird Beck dinosaur from the group of Stegosauria.

So far from this dinosaur only parts of the pelvis and bone plates and parts of the lower jaw known. The findings are from Sussex and the Isle of Wight and in the Lower Cretaceous, an age 137-121 million years dated.

They were described by Gideon Mantell (1790-1852), who coined the name Regnosaurus - derived from the people of the Regni, which formerly lived in Sussex. It is possible that at Craterosaurus, a likewise known only by scanty remains of English, Stegosaurus, a synonym, without further findings can not verify though.

Studies indicate that it was a primitive, Stegosaurus, the similarities with Huayangosaurus showed in the construction of the lower jaw, and is therefore sometimes classified in the Huayangosauridae. Because of sparse traditions but Regnosaurus nomen dubium is considered.
