Regulares

The Regulares ( Fuerzas Regulares indigenous to German: Regular Indigenous forces) are an elite major unit of the Spanish Army, today they are stationed mainly in the Plazas de soberanía along the Moroccan coast, but also occasionally take part in international peacekeeping missions. Originally Regulares were recruited from the local population of Spanish Morocco, today largely from the inhabitants of Ceuta and Melilla.

History

The Regulares General Damaso Berenguer Fusté were launched in 1911 to create the life with the aim of a light infantry with a good knowledge of terrain and battle tactics of the enemy in the course of Rifkriege. To this end, mostly locals were recruited from Spanish Morocco. In addition to their use in the Rifkriegen the Regulares also participated in the defeat of the miners' riots in 1934 during the Second Spanish Republic. During the Spanish Civil War, the Regulares fought on the front lines on the side of the rebels under Francisco Franco, who had in turn served 1913-1920 in these. After Morocco gained independence in 1956, large parts of the times, up to eight regiments ( Grupos ) were dissolved comprehensive United Association. Today there are two regiments. Uniform

The Regulares wear khaki - colored uniforms, a white cloak ( called Alquicel ), a red sash and a red Fez also as a head covering. Due to the oriental-style clothes and their characteristic slow march step of 60 steps per minute, they are a very popular guest at military parades.
