The Reial Academia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi ( katal. ) is founded in the original 1775 Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of Saint George with its headquarters in Barcelona ( Catalonia ).

The originally called " (toll ) free School of Design" ( Escola gratuita de Disseny ) well-known art school, at the next painting soon Sculpture and Architecture was taught, was founded by the Catalan Trade Council. As of 1849, the Barcelo niche art school was officially one of the Academies Provincilas de Belles Arts of Spain and received its independence in 1900. Today, the Academy, whose study now also offer music and other arts are, in the Barcelona University of Fine Arts and the Arts and Crafts School Escola Superior de Disseny i d'Art Llotja. Divided In 1930 it lost its character as a Provincial Academy of Spain and understood from then on as the Catalan Academy of Art.
