Reinhard Strohm

Reinhard Strohm (* August 4, 1942 in Munich) is a German musicologist and professor at the University of Oxford.

Life

Reinhard Strohm studied 1961-1971 musicology, Latin and Italian literature in Munich and Berlin at Thrasybulos Georgiades, Wolfgang Osthoff and Carl Dahlhaus. Strohm in 1971 his doctorate with a thesis on Italian opera arias of the early settecento ( 1720-1730 ). From 1970 to 1982 he worked as an editor at the Richard -Wagner- complete edition in Munich. 1975-1983 he was a " Lecturer in Music" at King 's College London, 1983-1990 Professor of Music History at Yale University, 1990-1996 Reader, then Professor of Historical Musicology at King's College London. Since 1996 Strohm is Heather Professor of Music at Oxford University, and he is a Fellow of the British Academy since 1993. Reinhard Strohm is a corresponding member of the American Musicological Society and co-editor of Acta Musicologica, Early Music History, Orbis musicae, Dramamturgia Musicale Veneta and the critical edition of the works of Vivaldi and Locatelli.

Research

Strohm research interests are the history of music of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the 18th century, the history of opera, and the historiography of musicology.
