Reinhold Behr

Reinhold Behr ( born October 17, 1948 in Tauberbischofsheim ) is a former German fencer who for the Federal Republic of Germany won an Olympic silver medal in the épée team in 1976.

Career

Reinhold Behr FC Tauberbischofsheim was in 1969, 1971 and 1976 German champion with the sword. During his first part in the Olympics in Munich in 1972, he left in the singles competition in the second round, the German team was defeated already evident in the first meeting against the later Olympic champion from Hungary. In the World Fencing Championships 1973 in Gothenburg, the German team fought to the final and defeated the Hungarian team there; Reinhold Behr, Joachim Peter, Jürgen Hehn, Joseph Szepesi and Harald Hein result won the first world championship for German fencer. In the individual competition Behr reached the fifth place, the best finish by a German epee fencer after the Second World War. In 1974, Behr study reasons not participate in any international tournaments.

1975 in Budapest succeeded Alexander Pusch, the first individual title of a German epee fencer in a World Cup; Behr, Hehn, Pusch and Elmar Beierstettel won the silver medal in Budapest behind the Swedes. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal Behr finished third in the individual competition a shared ninth place, Alexander Pusch was after a final victory against Jürgen Hehn Olympic champion. In the finals of the team competition faced each other as in the World Cup last year Sweden and German. Behr lost in the final of his four battles, the German team defeated the Swedes 8-5. Together with Pusch, Hehn, Volker Fischer and substitute Hanns Jana Behr received the silver medal, the first medal for a German epee team at all.

Reinhold Behr is the older brother of foil fencer Matthias Behr.

He worked at the Johannes - Butzbach Gymnasium in Miltenberg as a teacher of economics and law, as well as for sport.
