Remaster

Under remastering is understood in audio and in video post is usually a repeated performing of mastering. Most often this term is used in connection with older audio and video recordings that have been remastered for a re-release on audio CD or a DVD ( " digitally remastered ").

Audio remastering

The remastering process can extend from a normal mastering process to a complete restoration of the existing material. By remastering unwanted noise and noise can be removed or at least minimized, and thus the best possible sound quality can be achieved in elderly monaural or stereophonic sound sources.

Furthermore, in the remastering of still existing multi-track recording a new mix can be made; thus creating a so-called remix. Thus can be produced even from older sources now versions with contemporary slower pace and even Dolby Digital multi-track versions. This method is used eg in many older movies that seem new to DVD. Even if no more multi-track recordings are available and only a mono or stereo master is present, a multi-track surround sound editing is often possible ( upmix ). A variant is, for example, the Ambient Surround Imaging ( AMSI ).

Basically, the same editing options can be applied as mastering the remastering.

Video Remastering

Even with video and film material, the concept of is " remastering " used. Here we mean by this term includes the scanning of film and video footage for the DVD or Blu -ray production. After sampling the digitized video material can then be post-processed, where you scratch or damage the film copy digitally removed or color correction performs. If a film is restored and for a new negative is created, it is called in contrast to the remastering of film restoration.

Use in advertising

The problem is sometimes the use of the term " digitally remastered " in advertising. As already represents the technical Deploying an older sound source for publishing on a digital storage medium, a re- master in the true sense of the term over the optimization of the material for today's hi-fi requirements ensures no means. Especially in the low -price segment, so many new releases find older, mostly copyright-free audio and video materials, which were indeed remastered, but still have defects or " remastered " albums by compressing the dynamic range can be changed so that they have sound great differences compared to the original.
