Remniku is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Alajõe ( Alajõe vald ). It is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in the north- east of Estonia

Description and History

The village has 59 inhabitants ( 2000). It is located on the north shore of Lake Peipus ( Peipsi järv ), eight kilometers from the city Jõhvi. Near the village of Bach Remniku oja flows into Lake Peipus.

Remniku was first mentioned in 1583. 1732 lived in the place, only four families. 150 years later, the population had risen to eleven families.

From 1990 to 1994 was in Remniku a training center of the Estonian Border Guard ( Eesti Piirivalve ). Today, the site primarily for its leisure center and its swimming beaches on the lakeshore is known.
