Renato Cesarini ( born April 11, 1906 in Senigallia ( AN), Italy, † March 24, 1969 in Buenos Aires, Argentina ) was an Argentine- Italian football player and football coach.

A few months after his birth, emigrated with his family to Argentina. In some biographies and Buenos Aires is therefore given as his birthplace.

Renato Cesarini was a famous representative of the Oriundi, a generation of players with Italian ancestors who grew up abroad and later returned to their old home and also played for the local team. During his playing career he played as an attacking winger, his strengths were his great technique and intuitive game intelligence.

Cesarini died on 24 March 1969 at the age of 62 after a short illness in Buenos Aires.

Playing career

In the club

Renato Cesarini began his career at Borgata Palermo, the club of the neighborhood in which he lived, in Buenos Aires. In 1925 he rose to the Chacarita Juniors on in the first division. A year later he moved to Alvear, after which he played in 1929 for a short time for Ferrocarril and again for Chacarita.

In 1929 Renato Cesarini was then obliged by Juventus, for whom he 's 2-2 draw against Napoli celebrated his Serie A debut on 23 March 1930. He graduated in the season 1929/30, the first Serie A game time at all, 16 games for Juve, scoring ten goals. In the 1930/31 season he won with Juventus his first of five Italian championships and contributed nine goals at. In the following years he was a regular at the legendary team of Quinquennio d' Oro, who won five championships in a row under coach Carlo Carcano 1931-1935. Overall, he completed 147 appearances for Juventus, scoring 53 goals.

Due to his rebellious character and extroversion he is still probably one of the most atypical player in the history of Juventus, who attach great importance to today respectability and adaptation in their players. In the summer of 1935 he returned to Argentina, only to Chacarita Juniors, later to River Plate, with whom he was able to 1936 and 1937 to win the Argentine championship.

Cesarini ended his active career in the late 1930s.

In the National Team

Renato Cesarini graduated first two international matches for Argentina where he managed a goal. He made his debut on 29 May 1926.

Later he played for Italy. He celebrated his debut on 25 January 1931 in the Squadra Azzurra in the game against France. The game ended 5-0 and Cesarini could instantly achieve his first international goal. On 13 December 1931, he scored against Hungary in the last minute of the game the winning goal for 3:2. As he had previously met her in some championship games just before the end, the reporter from the " Zona Cesarini " said. This term is used in Italy even today for Torerfolge in the last minutes of play a game.

Between 1931 and 1932 Cesarini regular in the Italian national team, an injury and his subsequent change to Argentina was translated his national team career but soon an end. On February 11, 1934 at 2:4 against Austria, he completed his last international game. Overall Cesarini played eleven times for Italy, scoring three goals.

Coaching career

After his career end Renato Cesarini built the legendary youth academy from CA River Plate on with his football style is still considered one of the best organized in the world. In River he brought forth, inter alia, the likes of Omar Sívori. Later, he was also coach of River Plate and led the team to two championships. His legendary team that time is today known as La Maquina.

Cesarini was still working in Argentina later at Banfield (1949 ), the Boca Juniors (1950) and in the youth department of River Plate ( 1950-1958 ) as a coach.

Between 1946 and 1948, and from 1959 to 1961 was Cesarini head coach of Juventus. In his second spell at Juve he could 1959/60 and 1960/61, the Italian Cup and 1959/60 lead to win the Coppa Italia. At least in 1966, he worked again as a coach and River Plate collided with the Argentines before the final of the Copa Libertadores in 1966.

From 1967 to 1968 Renato Cesarini worked as coach of Argentina.
