Renault Trucks

Renault Trucks is a French manufacturer of trucks, headquartered in Saint- Priest near Lyon. Since 2001 he is part of the Volvo Group. From its founding in 1978 until 2002, the company operated under the name Renault Véhicules Industriels (French: Renault Commercial Vehicles ), from 1992 in the spelling Renault V. I., abbreviated as RVI. Until 1999, RVI stand beside trucks also produces buses and trolleybuses.

History

In 1955, the manufacturer Saviem originated as part of the French Renault group from the merger of Renault's own production medium and heavy commercial vehicles with manufacturers Somua and Latil. From 1957 Saviem was also the brand name of trucks and buses manufactured by Saviem.

At the instigation of the French state took over Renault 1975, the commercial vehicle company Berliet from Michelin group and they united in 1978 with Saviem to Renault Véhicules Industriels. Again, the usual brand names were continued with increasing DC circuit of the model series for two years, then in 1980 replaced by the name Renault.

From 1971 Saviem was also a member of the four - Club, a collaboration between four European truck manufacturers DAF, Magirus -Deutz, Volvo and Saviem. After the PSA Group had adopted the European subsidiaries of Chrysler in 1978, they sold their last operating under the Dodge brand commercial vehicle plants in the UK and Spain, 1983 to RVI on. The newly acquired British plants took to the commercial vehicle production of the Rootes Group, originally under the brand names Karrier and Commer back. The model introduced there were, as well as the brand name Dodge, when still retained for years in combination with the Renault trademark of RVI. In Spain, however, where Renault was already established as domestic car manufacturers that still goes back to the company Barreiros truck models from Dodge were immediately converted to the Renault brand and it soon replaced by French types.

In 1987, RVI took over from the parent company Renault, a 40 - % stake in the U.S. manufacturer Mack Trucks, which was created in 1990 to full RVI daughter. In 1994, RVI Czech bus manufacturer Karosa. In 1997, Renault V. I. a cooperation agreement with the Finnish truck manufacturer Sisu Auto.

In 1999, the Omnibus production was outsourced under the brands Renault and Karosa from the RVI and introduced by Renault in collaboration with the newly formed joint venture Iveco Irisbus. In 2003, Irisbus has been completely taken over by Iveco, Renault brand replaced at the buses by the Irisbus brand.

On 2 January 2001, Renault V. I. (without participation in Irisbus ) was sold to Volvo Group.
