René de Saint-Marceaux

Charles René de Saint- Marceaux ( born September 23, 1845 in Reims, † April 23, 1915 in Paris) was a French sculptor. His most famous works include the UPU monument in Berne.

De Saint- Marceaux was a pupil of the sculptor François Jouffroy and in 1905 was admitted to the Académie des Beaux -Arts. Some of his many works are in the Musée d' Orsay in Paris. But since it is mainly larger sculptures, there are also some in the streets and squares of his birth city of Reims. Among his best known works include the statue of Abbé Miroy (1873 ), The Secret of the Tomb hats Direction Genius ( 1879), Champagne foam ( 1887) and the tomb of Alexandre Dumas the younger.

Saint- Marceaux was also a medalist and collector of Greek coins of antiquity. In 1907 he was commissioned the plaque for the Société Française des Amis de la Médaille to create.
