René Herms

René Herms ( born July 17, 1982 in Dohna; † 9 January 2009 Lohmen ) was a German track and field athlete and Olympian. In the years 2003-2006 he was the best German 800 - meter runner.

Herms visited the Johann- Gottfried -Herder -Gymnasium in Pirna. Herms began with the handball, before he joined the Athletics in 1997. From the start, took him Klaus Müller LSV Pirna under his wing. Only Herms was sprinter, then 400 - meter runner. In 2001 he moved to the 800 -meter distance. From then on he trained with Wolfram Müller. He immediately became German Champion and European Junior Champion. In 2002 he then moved to LG Asics Pirna, which emerged from the LSV Pirna. From 1 January 2007 launched Herms for LG Braunschweig.

In October 2004, Herms married the physiotherapist Stefanie Lorenz. He was found dead in his apartment on January 10, 2009. In the autopsy, a sudden cardiac death as a result of virus-induced myocarditis was found in the death. The urn was held in Pirna on 26 January 2009.
