René-Marie Ehuzu

René -Marie Ehuzu CIM, René -Marie Ehouzou, ( born April 12, 1944 in Cotonou, Benin; † 17 October 2012 in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy) was Bishop of Porto Novo.

Life

René -Marie Ehuzu attended the minor seminary in 1955 and from 1959 the Minor Seminary in Ouidah Ste Jeanne d' Arc. In 1966 he entered the seminary in Ouidah St Gall. He received on September 30, 1972 Bishop of Lokossa, Robert Sastre, the ordination. He was a teacher in the minor seminary in Ouidah (1972 /74), Pastor (1974 /75) and professor at the Séminaire Notre Dame de Fatima in Parakou.

In 1979, he joined the Congregation of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary. He studied linguistics and became the University of Paris Sorbonne ( Docteur en Sciences des Religions ) and the Institut Catholique de Paris ( Docteur en Théologie, Spécialité liturgy) doctorate. On November 10, 1984, he passed the profession. He was a professor at the seminary in Ouidah, pastor, chaplain and prison chaplain and treasurer of the Seminary and pastor of the Cathédrale Notre- Dame-de- Mercy de Cotonou.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 19 November 2002 as Bishop of Abomey. He received his episcopal consecration, the Pope personally on 6 January of the following year; Co-consecrators were Leonardo Sandri, substitute of the Secretariat of State, and Antonio Maria Vegliò, secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches.

On 3 January 2007, he was called by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Porto Novo and introduced into the office on 4 February of the same year.

He was a member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue since 2007. He was a member of the Episcopal Conference of Benin, and was involved in the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar. He was president of Caritas Benin. In 2009 he took part in the African Synod of Bishops. He was the host of Pope Benedict XVI. at the Apostolic journey from 18 to 20 November 2011 at Benin.

Ehuzu died after a long illness. He was at an intensive treatment in a French hospital later in the Italian town of San Giovanni Rotondo.
