The airport René Moawad Air Force Base (Arabic مطار الرئيس الشهيد رينيه معوض, Matar al- Ra'is ash- Shahid Rīnīh Mu ʿ Awwad ) ( IATA code: KYE, ICAO: olka ), formerly and sometimes even now as an airport Koleyat (Arabic مطار القليعات, Matar al - ʿ Qulai aT ), is a both military and civil -used airport in the north of Lebanon near the town of el- Qlaïaat (also al - Qulay'at, Qulayaat, Kleyate Koleyat or written ).

The Lebanese Air Force has expanded the civilian airfield in the 1960s to an air base.

In November 1989, the National Assembly met here together after the signing of the Ta'if to select René Moawad as President. He fell 17 days later assassinated, and the airport was renamed in his honor later.

In the 1990s, the Lebanese airline Middle East Airlines operating flights between here and Beirut in scheduled service to service the area around Tripoli.

During the 2006 Lebanon war, the Israeli air force bombed on 13 July 2006 the airport.
