René Rensch

René Rensch ( born March 18, 1969 in Kyritz ) is a former oarsman for the GDR took internationally and in 1988 won the Olympic silver medal in pairs with coxswain.

Rensch approached for the SG Dynamo Potsdam. 1984 and 1985 he was helmsman of the quartet, who consecutively won twice at the Junior World Championships. 1987 formed two rowers from this foursome, Detlef Kirchhoff and Mario dispute, together with a new two Rensch with coxswain. This boat finished at the World Rowing Championships in 1987 to fourth place behind Italian brothers Carmine and Giuseppe Abbagnale with her mate Giuseppe di Capua, the British boat with Andrew Holmes, Steven Redgrave and helmsman Patrick Sweeney and the Romanians Dimitrie Popescu Vasile Tomoiagă.

At the 1988 Seoul Olympics won Kirchhoff, strife and Rensch their lead, in the semifinals the Abbagnale brothers were victorious against the GDR and two Romanians. The other semi-final won a Bulgarian two before the British. In the final, the first four boats reached with less than four seconds behind the goal, the Italian defending champion won in front of the boat from the GDR and the British, who had already won the day before without Sweeney gold in the coxless pairs; Romanians were fourth in the Olympic final.

For winning the silver medal in Seoul Rensch was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.
