Rene Simpson

Rene Simpson Collins ( born January 14, 1966 in Sarnia, † October 17, 2013 in Chicago, United States) was a Canadian tennis player.

Career

Before Simpson took on the WTA tour, she played NCAA tennis at Texas Christian University. Her best result at a Grand Slam was reaching the third round at the French Open in 1989 in singles. In doubles, she was successful. Here she reached the U.S. Open quarter-finals in 1996 and won on the WTA tour three tournaments.

At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona Simpson was in single and double at the start.

In Fed Cup, she played for Canada from 1988 to 1998 and was the team female head of 2001 to 2010.

Personal

Simpson was married to Jason Collins. On October 17, 2013, it died of a brain tumor, where they had suffered for one year.
