Rensselaer and Saratoga Railroad

The Rensselaer and Saratoga Railroad (R & S) was a railway company in New York and Vermont ( United States). It existed as an independent company of 1832 until 1968.

The Company was incorporated on April 14, 1832 and began in the autumn of 1833 with the construction of a standard gauge railway line from Ballston to Troy. They branched off in Ballston from the already existing since 1833 Saratoga and Schenectady Railroad. The line was finally opened to Troy on August 19, 1835 to Waterford and on March 19 in 1836 and had a total length of 41 kilometers. The terminus was located in Troy, first on the west bank of the Hudson River.
