Repino

Repino (Russian Репино; Kuokkala to 1948 ) is a suburb of the Russian city of Saint Petersburg about 45 km north-west of the city center on the shores of the Gulf of Finland with 2478 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

The urban-type settlement belongs administratively to the city of Saint Petersburg belonging Rajon spa.

The settlement was part of the Finnish part of the Russian Empire and came to the Finnish independence to that country, but fell by the Soviet-Finnish Winter War with the Soviet Union. Repino was named in honor of the painter Ilya Repin, who had lived for three decades in 1930 in what was then Kuokkala until his death, renamed 1948. His estate, which according to the Roman gods named Villa protection JOHNSON (Russian Пенаты ), is now a museum and the main attraction of the place.
