Réseau de Transport d' Electricité, S. A. (RTE ), headquartered in Paris operates the French transmission network for electricity. RTE is a 100 % subsidiary of Electricité de France.

Company History

RTE was founded on 1 July 2000, first as a non-autonomous unit within EDF. Reason was the liberalization of the European electricity market. This demanded by EDF, the elimination of the production of the Transportation Division. Two laws have encouraged this development:

  • The European directive 96/92/CE of 2 December 1996, which was implemented on 10 February 2000 by France, was the catalyst for the creation of RTE and festgeschrieb independence in the areas of finance, accounting and corporate governance.
  • A law of August 9, 2004, finally requested a full legal elimination of EDF. This RTE was September 1, 2005 into an independent corporation whose capital but is still held by EDF.

Management

RTE has a board of 12 members: four representatives of EDF and four representatives of employees and four representatives of the French State. The management of the company is a board consisting of four members, who are appointed for five years by the Supervisory Board. In May 2007, took over after the departure of André Merlin, Dominique Maillard as CEO.
