Respect

Respect (Latin respectus " Looking Back, consideration, considering ," also respecto " look back, take into account " ) refers to a form of appreciation, attention and deference to another living being ( person of respect ) or an institution. An increase of respect is the reverence about before a deity.

Antonyms are disrespect, disregard and contempt increased.

Term

The term is usually applied to interpersonal relationships, but may also be related to animals, groups, institutions, countries, or moral views, or foreign social views. Respect does not necessarily imply respect, but a respectful attitude excludes unscrupulous selfish behavior. The idea of respect is something advance Walking and is not derived from a right idea. Aspects of respect can be very diverse and are also expressed differently in different societies. Culturally -related differences in behavior, self-and external perception may inadvertently give the impression of disrespect or even taboo violation.

Variants

Respect is often triggered or exacerbated by symbols and refers to different forms of behavior, such as:

  • Respect for the other person or politeness towards her.
  • The authority of the other person.
  • Fear of the power of a superior person.
  • Tolerance to the other person.
  • Caution in actions against people who offend or could cause mischief.

Pedagogical perspective

In the English language are the connotations of the word "respect" of today is much milder than in German. Respect is not there in the first place for a quasisoldatische submission, but neutral for the respect that any human being should have placed in every other human being. The antonym of respect is maltreatment ( abuse ). In this sense, respect is a highly respected and universally recognized goal of education in the United States.

Education of the child to a respectful tone uses among others a good example of parents who, the child and other people always meet each other without condescension or humiliation. The respectful treatment of the child consists, for example, its age-appropriate natural preferences - for instance for candy or for certain TV shows - not to ridicule ( which does not mean that parents have to put the TV snacking or the child unlimited).
