Ressano Garcia
Province
Ressano Garcia is a place in Mozambique on the border with the Republic of South Africa. The place is marked by a development from the colonial period, but neglected and dominated by typical border fence phenomena such as smuggling, prostitution, tugs, theft and violence.
Geography
The city lies on the other side of the border in the Republic of South Africa Komatipoort. Boundary rivers are the Komati and Crocodile River.
Population
The town has about 10,000 inhabitants. Most of them live in the sometimes very steep slopes of the adjacent hills.
History
Many families were still settled in colonial times here, others found in Ressano Garcia on their flight from the Mozambican civil war a place to stay.
Economy and infrastructure
Ressano Garcia is on the new expressway Johannesburg -Maputo and the railway line from the Container Terminal City Deep in Johannesburg to the port of Maputo. Here the border formalities are being completed.
