Øresund Bridge#Drogden Tunnel

The Drogdentunnel, also called Oresund tunnel, as is the Oresund Bridge and the artificial island Peberholm a part of the Øresund link between Denmark and Sweden. The execution of this part of the Øresund connection as a tunnel was necessitated by the proximity to Copenhagen Airport as a bridge would restrict air traffic.

The straight tunnel connects the Danish islands of Amager and Peberholm and crosses under running between Amager and Saltholm -west passage of the Øresund, the Drogden.

The total length of the combined road and rail tunnel is 4050 meters, of which 3510 meters account for the immersed tunnel and 270 meters respectively to the two driveways. The tunnel consists of two railway tubes, two road tubes and a service and evacuation tube. It is composed of twenty components of dimensions 176 m × 38.8 m × 8.6 m, each weighing 55,000 tons and the largest prefabricated tunnel elements found on Earth.
