Retractable bridge

A push bridge is a moveable bridge with a horizontally movable roadway. The roadway will be withdrawn in the longitudinal direction to clear the way for ships.

In Sweden and Norway, there are several such bridges. An example is the Ultunabron south of Uppsala in Sweden.

Even in Saint- Malo (France ), there is such a bridge, as near Leiden in the Netherlands.

In Germany there is a thrust bridge for pedestrians in Kiel, right next to the scissors bridge on the horn. However, it is moved only as a replacement for the maintenance of the folding bridge.

' Shifting bridge ' is not to be confused with ' bridge slot '. The latter is a construction method: the new bridge is not built in their later location, but close to it. After the demolition of the old bridge, the new one is pushed on rails by means of hydraulics to their final location. Thus, for example, a weekly or month-long interruption of a railway line avoided (See # bridge construction).
