Retrocomputing

Retro Computing (from Latin retro = backwards and computers) is the conscious use of obsolete computer technology as a hobby, for the use of older computer games ( retro games), for data protection ( by the contents of the old disk is backed up to more modern media) and to secure the knowledge of old technology and software.

Retro games, as well as arcade and console games are older but often played on modern systems, such as the PC or partly consoles and mobile phones. Either by emulator, as regular new release or as online or Flash game or app. Historical hardware is not required. Some games, however, are inadequate or non- emulated or are not currently available, such as prototypes, indexed games or productions.

Organization

In Germany there is a large community of friends old techniques, which determines e part in associations such as the Retro Games V., Club for obtaining classical computer eV or ABBUC eV are organized. Communities such as the Forum64 or A1k.org ( specializing in Amiga), in which are found enthusiasts Furthermore exist.

Nationwide annual meetings are the Retro Look at Gamescom in Cologne, the Long Night of Computer Games in Leipzig, the Classic Computing with changing venues and the Vintage Computer Festival Europe in Munich. There are also a number of smaller meetings, some of which are limited to a computing system and partly take place at more frequent intervals.
