Rettenegg is a municipality with 754 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Weiz district in the east of Styria on the border with Lower Austria.

Geography

Geographical Location

Rettenegg lies in the Fischbacher Alps at the mouth of the creek in the Pfaff Feistritzwerke. It meet there also the coming of Pfaffensattel and Feistritzsattel streets. The southern part of the area belongs to the Styrian Joglland.

The northwestern edge of the municipality forms the ridge Pretul (1656 m above A.. ) - Stuhleck, with the 1782 m above sea level. A. the highest point of the municipality is. Also, the ridge of the bill partly belongs to the municipality.

Forest Railway Steinhaus - Rettenegg

Between 1911 and 1958 reversed the Feistritzwerke forest track between stone house and Rettenegg today are traces of the former railway line to find.

Religions

Of the population, 97.6 % are Roman Catholic, 0.4 % belong to the Evangelical Church. 1.6 % have no religious confession.

Population Development

The population reached in the 1923 census with 1251, its highest level and has since been a steady decline since 1971 coming from a census for each of around 10%. Natural Monuments

  • Planet " Heaven on Earth": Along a hike on the Stuhleck the solar system is presented. Museum

The exhibition "The Old Forest Railway " at the inn Rosinger is a permanent exhibition. There will be original plans (1:1000 ) and photos of the former railway from Rettenegg to Steinhaus am Semmering.
