Réunion National Park

The National Park Réunion on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean since 2007, the ninth national park of France.

The park, whose core area occupies about 40 % of the island, was established to protect the endemic animal and plant species on the island of Réunion. On Reunion Island, there are lfl ​​three times more endemic species than on Hawaii and five times more endemic species than the Galapagos Islands.

In 2010, the National Park Réunion was under the title: Pitons, cirques et Ramparts de l' île de La Réunion was added (Eng. " summit, valley and steep slopes of the island of Reunion " ) in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The National Park includes the extinct volcano Piton des Neiges and the three he created Cirque de Cilaos, Cirque de Mafate and Cirque de Salazie, as well as the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise on the south side of the island.
