Revolutionary Anti-Racist Action

The Revolutionaire anti - Racistische Actie (abbreviation: RaRa ) was a Dutch anti-apartheid activist group in the late 1980 / early 1990, which was classified as "violent, political activist group " by former Binnenlandse Veiligheidsdienst. The RaRa was at that time one of the major terrorist organization in the Netherlands.

Objectives

The RaRa aimed to move through targeted attacks on corporate entities or companies to withdraw from South Africa. The imperialist system, which the apartheid regime in South Africa get erect due to political and economic interests, could be weakened and with it the apartheid regime.

The burning down of the Steen coals Handelsvereiniging ( SHV) (now SHV Holding) belonging macro supermarkets led the management of the SHV to abandon their business activities in South Africa. After the first three attacks, the damage for the SHV stood by the burning down around 137 million guilders (about 62 million euros ). Insurance of SHV wanted the risks no longer carry and the government promised only increased protection of supermarkets. This was the management not enough and so the SHV pulled back from South Africa for business in 1988.

Structure

The organizational structure and the names of the members are unknown. On April 11, 1988 eight alleged members were arrested and charged in Amsterdam. Only one, René Roemersma, was ever convicted of crimes in connection with the grouping. In African media he was also named as the alleged leader of the RaRa.
