Rewa (princely state)

Rewa ( Rewah ) was a princely state in the Bundelkhand region of British India. The Rajput state is, according to legend since 1140 and was the largest in Bundelkhand. He came in 1658 under the suzerainty of the Mughal Empire from 1812 to 1947 and was a British protectorate. Maharaja Ghulab Singh ( 1930-46 ) led the title Samrajya Maharajadhiraja Bandhresh Shri Maharaja.

The country had in 1941 an area of ​​33,669 km ² and 1.8 million inhabitants. On April 4, 1948, Rewa joined the prince Union Vindhya Pradesh and executed on 1 January 1950 following India. The Maharaja of Rewa Martand Singh was 1948-49 Rajpramukh (Head of State ) of Vindhya Pradesh. On November 1, 1956 all princely states were dissolved and Vindhya Pradesh the state of Madhya Pradesh incorporated.
