Revani followed Selim in 1512 to Istanbul at Selim's accession to the throne, succeeding his father Bayezid II under Sultan Selim I. Revani was first to the superintendent of the kitchen ( Matbah Emini / مطبخ امينی ). Later, the management of the Aya Sofya / آيا صوفيا (Hagia Sophia ) and the ḳablıca / قبلجه ( thermal springs ), he was entrusted in Bursa.

After the achieved prosperity Revani built a mosque in Istanbul's Kirk Çeşme / قرق چشمه. The mosque was later named after him. Since this mosque was later destroyed, they no longer exist. Revani died in 1524 during the reign of Sultan Kanuni and was buried in the garden of his mosque.

Works

Revani left to posterity a collection of poems ( divan ) of Sultan Selim and the Mesnevi ʿ İşret Name / عشرت نامه ( the book of the wine festival). The İşretname scrutinizes the drinking culture in the Ottoman Empire ( Bacchic culture). In the literature, the Turks find Bacchic elements already in the 14th and 15th centuries. But Revanis İşretname is the first comprehensive work of its kind in Turkish literature. Revani is therefore regarded as the inventor of this type of literature. It was not until a century later, the genre of Sakiname ( "Book of Giving " ) should celebrate popularity.

His Diwan of Sultan Selim is especially true due to the contained Gazel ( a song form ) as significant. The Ġazels he act of philanthropy and of esoteric love. For many of these songs a music was composed, which made them very popular in a short time in the coffee houses and wine houses of the Ottoman Empire.

İşretname

The İşretname is a Mesnevi and consists of 694 beyt. It deals with legends about the origin of viticulture and the discovery of the wine. Revani reported in detail regarding the expiry of typical drinking rounds this time, the court previously served, the wine, the wine glasses, the wine jug, the candles, the music instruments, the cupbearer, etc.

At the end of İşretname explains Revani, the work should be " mystical interpretation ". But that will be viewed as a tactic to protect themselves from attacks from orthodox circles. The work occupied historians after his own penchant for drinking. Revani stands to this day reputed to have been dishonest and dissolute. The İşretname is praised for his wit and his petite and elegant, yet simple and clear language.
