Rhamnetin is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of flavonoids and flavonols and is isomeric with isorhamnetin.

Occurrence

Rhamnetin occurs naturally in Indian patchouli and as the main dye in buckthorn berries ( Rhamnus Latin, hence the name ) and some other plants in front. It is produced during the hydrolysis of Xanthorhamnin. It was investigated in the 1880s by Liebermann, Hörmann and Josef Herzig first.

Production and representation

Artificially Rhamnetin can be produced by enzymatic methods by O-methyl -7.

Properties

Rhamnetin is a pale yellow, odorless powder. It is a monomethyl ether of quercetin.

Use

Rhamnetin is used in paper finishing as part of the developer layer in the pressure-sensitive copying papers.
