Rhea County, Tennessee

The Rhea County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Dayton.

Geography

The County is located in east-central Tennessee and has an area of 871 square kilometers, of which 53 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cumberland County, Roane County, Meigs County, Hamilton County and Bledsoe County.

History

Rhea County was formed on November 30, 1807 from parts of Roane County. It was named after John Rhea, a politician from Tennessee and a member of the House of Representatives.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Rhea County 28,400 people in 11,184 households and 8,108 families. The population density was 35 people per square kilometer.
