Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn

The Rheinische Landesmuseum Bonn ( current own naming LVR- Landesmuseum Bonn. Rhineland Museum of Archaeology, Art and Cultural History ) of the Rhineland Regional Council is one of the oldest museums in Germany and is the central archaeological, art and cultural history museum on the history of the Rhineland dar.

History

On January 4, 1820 progenitor of the Museum was founded as a " Antiquities Museum " by decree of the Prussian chancellor Karl August von Hardenberg. The establishment of the actual " Provincial Museum " was held in 1874, among others by Ernst aus'm Weerth and Hermann Schaaffhausen instead.

1877 was established as a sister museum for the Moselle part of the Rhineland, the Trier Rhineland Museum.

Museum building

A separate building was constructed in 1898 according to plans by Clemens Guinbert. It was enlarged in 1907 by Heinrich Röttgen to a two-storey three-wing. During World War II the " original building " was destroyed. Rainer Schell replaced this part with a new building.

The renovation of the museum from 1997 to 2003 was part of a complete refurbishment. The first designed for three years of construction had doubled and the calculated to the equivalent of 45 million euro costs increased to approximately 80 million euros.

Permanent exhibition

The permanent exhibition of the museum is organized around the following themes: eras, secrets on the track, by the Gods to God, scene Rhineland, From survival to the beautiful life, power and powers, The Rhineland and the world and from the primal to the city landscape. Here are - regardless of the chronological context - masterpieces of art presented in addition to simple everyday objects and sacred music in the neighborhood everyday devices. Funding

Wilhelm Dorow Society

The Association of Friends and Supporters of the Rheinische Landesmuseum, the Wilhelm- Dorow Society, is named after the eminent archaeologists and Prussian privy councilor William Dorow. By order of the Prussian State Chancellor Prince Karl August von Hardenberg Dorow was appointed as the first director of the newly founded museum.

Cinema

The Rhineland Museum now offers a cinema equipped with the latest technology, which is particularly praised for its good acoustics.

There mainly films are shown in original language with German subtitles. As part of the Ciné Fête the Rheinische Landesmuseum shows once a year famous French films in special performances for school groups.
