Description

Rhipsalis crispata growing epiphytic or on the ground with numerous arching stems of unlimited growth. The leaf-like flat or rarely three -bladed, elongated bright green shoots are elliptical or obovate and usually truncate at the base. They are 6-10 centimeters long and 2-4 centimeters wide. Their edges are notched to lobed. The very small areoles bear no bristles.

The wheel-shaped, creamy white flowers appear singly or in groups. Between two and four and reach a diameter of 1 to 1.2 centimeters The spherical fruits are white.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Rhipsalis crispata is widespread in the Brazilian states of Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco and São Paulo in different forest types as well as in coastal dunes. The first description was published in 1830 as Epiphyllum crispatum by Adrian Hardy Haworth. Curt Ludwig Karl Georg Pfeiffer she put 1836 in the genus rhipsalis.

Rhipsalis crispata has been compromised, for inclusion in the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN in 2002 as " Vulnerable (VU) ", ie. After the revision of the list of 2013, the type is called " Endangered ( EN ) ', ie performed as endangered.
