The Greenlandic Porst (Rhododendron groenlandicum, synonym: Ledum groenlandicum Oeder ) is a plant belonging to the family Ericaceae ( Ericaceae ).

Features

The Greenlandic Porst is reached an evergreen dwarf shrub, the plant height of 0.5 to 1.5 meters. The species has Specifies instincts and underground runners. The leaves are rolled over 2 to 5 times as long as wide, ovate to lanceolate, and the margin. The present on the leaf underside midrib is covered by the rust-colored, felt-like hairs. There are 5-8 stamens present. In general, the seed vessel is twice as long as wide.

The flowering period extends from May to July.

Occurrence

The Greenlandic Porst is found in bogs in temperate to arctic North America and Greenland. In Germany, the species was naturalized.

Use

The Greenlandic Porst is rarely used as an ornamental plant for peat beds. He is culture since at least the 20th century.
