Rhumspringe is a municipality of the velvet municipality Gieboldehausen ( seat Gieboldehausen ) in the district of Göttingen, in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

Geographical location

Rhumspringe is located on the northeast edge of the lower Eichsfeld or on the southern edge of the Red Mountain and is traversed in an east-west direction from the upper reaches of the Rhume whose water's edge / Ellerniederung / Giller Heimer stream valley is in Rahmem from the nature reserve Rhumeaue under protection. Not far northeast of the town there is a Rhumequelle, with a water output of up to 5000 l / s it is one of the largest karst springs in Europe.

History

Was first mentioned in a deed Rhumspringe for the local parish church of " St. Sebastian" from the year 1250. Attractions

Rhumequelle

The Rhumequelle is located about 1.2 kilometers northeast of the town center and is at least since the 13th century its name to the place Rhumspringe. It is the third largest source in Germany and one of the most prolific karst springs in Central Europe. The bluish appearing Quelltopf and Auewald the area are developed for tourism by applied trails and a nearby car park. In addition to the use of hydroelectric power the Rhume for industrial purposes, some of the water of Rhumequelle is used after treatment as drinking water.

Catholic parish church of St. Sebastian

The parish church of St. Sebastian was built in 1976-77 and is the successor to the church formerly 1812/1822 and 1976 constructed worn worship of Rhumspringe, which was also dedicated to Saint Sebastian. Economy and infrastructure

Generally

Until a few years, the tax revenue ensured by the paper mill and the Rhume hotel that the budget of Rhumspringe in contrast to the many surrounding communities had no deficit. Harzer paper mill Rhumspringe

Already in 1828 a woolen goods factory was founded by the manufacturer Duderstädter Ludwig August Hertwig at the site of today's paper mill near the Rhumequelle. Concentration processes in the paper industry as well as price declines for paper products introduced in 1952 through a settlement request to bankruptcy. One of the main creditor, Walter Gerstenmaier from Stuttgart, took over with a trust company the work. Then the new paper mill Harz GmbH was founded in February 1954, the processed mainly waste paper. In 1955, as another shareholder Carl -Heinrich Sievers from Bremen in the company. Traffic
