Rhyl FC

The Rhyl Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Pel Droed Y Rhyl ) is a football club based in Rhyl (Wales). The club was founded in 1883 and plays in the Cymru Alliance. The club has brought over the years several name and exchange leagues behind.

History

Already in the late 1870s Rhyl football was played in the city. The Rhyl Football Club, founded in 1883 1890 was a founding member of the Welsh League. After the first season the club moved his team back. 1893 returned the club back as Rhyl Athletic and was a member of the North Wales Coast League. Two years later, the club took the championship in this league. 1898 merged the club with Rhyl Town and joined the Anglo -Welsh Combination. Despite financial problems, it remained until the dissolution of the League in 1911 a member of this league. As Rhyl United, the club returned to the North Wales Coast League.

After the First World War, the club moved to the North Wales Alliance. In 1921 the club founding member of the Welsh National League ( North ), which they won in 1926. 1928, the name was changed in Rhyl Athletic. 1936, the club was admitted to the Cheshire League and after the end of World War II began one of the most successful chapter in the club's history. 1948 and 1951 was Rhyl master of this league. 1952 and 1953 Rhyl was two consecutive Welsh Cup winners. In 1972, the club took the third championship of the Cheshire League. After the end of the Cheshire League Rhyl was a member of the North West Counties League. Later the club promotion to the Northern Premier League.

1992 returned the club back to Wales. Since the application for the League of Wales was too late Rhyl was divided into the Cymru Alliance. In 1994, the club finally managed to move up to the League of Wales. In the early years the club struggled to avoid relegation before a consortium under the leadership of ex - player Peter Parry took over the business. 2004 Rhyl was first Welsh champion and got through the cup and league cup win the Triple. In the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, was eliminated by the Latvian champions Skonto Riga. The following season Rhyl was runner-up and so managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup. In the first qualifying round, you turned off the Lithuanian representatives Atlantas Klaipeda. In round two came off against Viking Stavanger in Norway.
