The Eastern bands snake ( Thamnophis sauritus ) is one of about 30 species of snakes of the genus garter snakes. A second type - Thamnophis proximus - is also called "ribbons snake ", but Western bands snake.

Features

Thamnophis sauritus climbs very well and has already discovered a few meters above the ground in the branches. It eats mainly frogs, but other amphibians, their larvae and slugs and fish.

The type reached just over 100 cm in length. Males stay much smaller.

Like all Thamnophen is also the Eastern bands viper viviparous with three to 26 offspring per litter.

Dissemination

The Eastern bands snake is mainly - hence their name - in eastern North America is home (New York to Florida). It is found only in the vicinity of water.
