Ribeira Grande de Santiago is a district ( concelho ) on the island of Santiago in the south of the Republic of Cape Verde.

Ribeira Grande de Santiago is located west of Praia. The neighboring municipality of Santa Catarina is in the northwest of Santa Cruz in the north, São Domingos in the Northeast and Praia to the east.

The district of Ribeira Grande de Santiago there until 2005 when it was separated from the territory of the district of Praia. The name comes from the Portuguese, meaning " Great River " or " valley ". This is the former name of the city of Cidade Velha, today's administrative headquarters of the district, and alludes to the great river mouth, in which the city was built.
