Ribeirinho

Ribeirinho, Francisco Carlos Lopes Ribeiro actually, ( born September 21, 1911 in Lisbon, † February 7, 1984 ) was a Portuguese actor and film director.

Career

He was born as the younger brother of the director António Lopes Ribeiro later in the Lapa neighborhood in Lisbon. The age of five he was standing on a stage, in Linda-a -Velha first time. He played henceforth theater, and began in 1935 and even to stage pieces. For his brother, he was in 1937 for the first time on camera. He often played in the popular revues at the time of Lisbon, where he especially enjoyed success as a comic actor. This set continues in his film career, which earned him considerable fame, especially in the successful comedies of his brother and those of the former UFA - actor Arthur Duarte. His only work as a film director, O Pátio the Cantigas (Eng. "backyard of Songs", 1942), was one of the biggest box office hits of its time in Portugal, thanks also to his own comedic acting skills. Again he played the shy and frail, but imaginative and humorous, lively lovers here.

Even as a serious theater director, he made a name for himself, especially with his productions of Saint Joan by George Bernard Shaw and Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett in the 1950s. From 1978 to 1981 he was director of the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II in Rossio Square in Lisbon.
