Ribera d'Ebre

The comarca of Ribera d' Ebre, in the province of Tarragona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of ​​827.3 km ² and 24,004 inhabitants (2009 ).

Location

The community association is located in the western part of Catalonia west of the provincial capital city of Tarragona. It is bordered on the north by the Comarca Segrià and Garrigues, on the east by the Priory, on the southeast by Baix Camp, in the southwest of Baix Ebre, in the west of Terra Alta and to the northwest by the Autonomous Community of Aragon. Together with the Comarcas Baix Ebre, Montsiā and Terra Alta is the region 's territory Terres de l' Ebre.

Ribera d' Ebre is one in the length of stretched, oriented from northwest to southeast area. The lower reaches of the river Ebro permeates the whole community association. In the center of the comarca is the basin of Mora. It is surrounded by hills of the coast upstream Mountains. The highest elevation of Ribera d' Ebre is located in the southwest of the Serra de Cardó, with peaks of over 800 m. To the west, nestled between the central mountain ranges of Serra de Cardó one hand and the Serra de Tivissa and Serra de la Creu the other hand is the Pla de Burgar. In the extreme southeast of the Comarca extends up to 2.5 km to the coast of the Mediterranean.

Economy

One important industry is the production of energy in the hydropower plants Riba- roja and Flix and the nuclear power plant Ascó.
