Ribitol, also commonly known as adonitol ( ol ), is a pentavalent sugar alcohol formed by reduction of ribose. It occurs naturally in the plant Adonis vernalis ( Adonis ).
Ribitol has biological relevance as a component of the coenzyme flavin adenine dinucleotide ( FADH2 ).
