Ricardo Hausmann

Ricardo Hausmann is a Venezuelan economist. He is Professor of Development Economics at Harvard University.

Life

Hausmann studied at Cornell University initially Engineering ( B.Sc., 1977). 1977-1981 he studied economics (MA, 1980, Ph.D., 1981). 1981-1984 he was an assistant professor at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. 1984-1985 worked for the Ministry of Planning and Coordination of Venezuela. 1985-1992 taught at the Instituto de Estudios Hausmann Superiores de Administración in Caracas. 1987-1988 was a consultant in the Reform Commission copre and 1989-1991 Advisor to the President of the Venezuelan Central Bank. 1988-1991 he was a visiting scientist of St Antony 's College. 1992-1993 he was the Venezuelan Minister of State for Planning and Coordination, also he was in the Development Committee of the World Bank and IMF. From 1994 to 2000 Hausmann was Chief Economist of the Inter-American Development Bank. Since 2000 he is a professor at Harvard since 2005, director of the Center for International Development.

Work

Haussmann's research interests are economic growth, macroeconomic stability, international finance, and the social dimensions of development.
