Richard Fletcher-Vane, 2nd Baron Inglewood

William Richard Fletcher- Vane, 2nd Baron Inglewood ( born July 31, 1951 in Carlisle) is a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party. He is since 1989 member of the House of Lords and was from 1989 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2004 Member of the European Parliament.

Inglewood is the oldest son of former conservative House of Representatives William Fletcher- Vane, 1st Baron Inglewood and his wife Mary Proby. He studied at Eton College and at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1975 and received his admission as a barrister at Lincoln 's Inn. Since 1986, he is married to Cressida Pemberton - Pigott, with her he has a son and two daughters.

At the general election in 1983, he stood as Conservative candidate in the traditionally dominated by the Labour Party constituency Houghton and Washington East, where he graduated with 24% of votes in third place.

In the 1984 European elections, he joined unsuccessfully in constituency Durham, at the 1989 European elections he was elected in the constituency of Cumbria and Lancashire North to the European Parliament. He lost his seat in the European elections in 1994, but European elections of 1999 was re-elected, this time in the constituency of North West England. At the 2004 European parliamentary elections he no longer went to.

In 1989 he inherited from his father the title of nobility, including the related seat in the House of Lords. When he was first elected in the same year to the European Parliament, he kept parallel also his seat in the House of Lords. 1994 to 1995 he served there as a whip, then he was Junior Minister in the Ministry for the care of monuments and historical buildings ( Department for National Heritage ), he remained in this post until the Conservatives in 1997, the lower house elections lost. Since 1993 he has been Deputy Lieutenant of Cumbria. With the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999, he lost along with all other Erbpeers ( Hereditary peers) the automatic seat in the House of Lords. However, he was chosen as one of 92 selected Erbpeers that remained after the reform in the House.
